Descripción de Mambo Smooth Jazz Jam:
The MIDI file of my piano solo as well as the backing track I am playing to are available for download on my website at http://www.lot2learn.com It should be obvious to my subscribers that I enjoy taking a series of seemingly unrelated chords and connecting them through right hand improvisation. I use this partly as a practice exercise to help me create different transitions between the chords, and also to help me form coherent and interesting phrasing throughout an improvisational piece that has definition, purpose and makes a statement. I also do this because it's fun! The 4 chords used for this session are C Minor9 to Asus7 to Absus7 to Dbsus7. There are some resolves to the dominant 7th from the sus chords in there as well. If you want to analyze the theory behind these 4 chords and why they work well together, it's because it is actually just a I-IV-II-V progression in C Minor but using tritone substitution for the II chord and the V chord. ;-) I start this jam by creating a basic "melody" (which I later doubled with an organ patch) and then proceed with the improvisation. My phrasing for the improvisation is built on utilizing chord tones of the respective chords, approach notes, enclosures, passing tones and scales. For example, For CMinor7 I use the C Minor pentatonic and C minor scales and on the Asus I use D Major scale and A Major pentatonic. Rhythmic variations, repetitive motifs, variations in speed and number of notes played, all help to keep the improvisation flowing and maintain listener interest. The Roland FP-4 is being used as a controller keyboard for the Lounge Lizard VST Rhodes. Backing track created with BIAB and extra organ part added for melody reinforcement as noted above. Once again a HUGE thanks to Jamal at http://www.midikeyz.com for the midi keyboard display above my piano keyboard. Thanks for listening!
