Descripción de Besos (Jorge Negrete):
Jorge Negrete is most remembered as the arrogant & macho singer of Rancheras decked out in his fine Charro suits. But like other early superstars of Mexican recorded media, Jorge was a product of the Conservatorio Nacional's Bel Canto maestro Jorge Pierson. Like his peers (Jose Mojica, Pedro Vargas, Dr. Ortiz Tirado etc.,) he aspired to song Opera & other forms of "serious music". But, the U.S. and Europe were largely closed markets for the avalanche of Mexican opera talent, and the Mexican market was saturated. So he had to find other outlets to exist. In the mid 1930s he tried his luck in New York (where he was offered the back up tenor job at the Met which he rejected)... and took up singing Boleros. He partnered up with another Mexican tenor Ramon Armengod and sang for CBS Radio under the moniker of "The Mexican Cabelleros". In 1937, Black Swan signed Jorge to his first recording contract, and "The Mexican Cabelleros" recorded Besos composed by big band maestro Luis Arcaraz. Translation: Woman bring your mouth next to mine, Bring your soul, next to my soul. A kiss from your lips, provoke me. For one of your kisses, I would die. Woman bring your mouth next to mine, My heart is opressed by your pleasure, I want die as the day wanes, Drunk with the nectar of your kisses.
