Mukti was released on 1937 Bengali film starring Pramathesh Barua, Kanan Debi, Menoka Debi, Indu Mukherjee, Debabala, Pahari Sanyal, Sailen Choudhury, Pankaj Mullick. The Bengali film is Directed by Pramathesh Barua. Pankaj Mullick scored the music in the film. The story is as Prasanta (Pramathesh Barua) is an artist. Chitra (Kanan Debi) is Prasanta's educated and beautiful wife. Chitra always wants her husband to be by her side. Prasanta is absorbed in objects of all that is beautiful and this pains Chitra. Chitra's father Mr. Mullick (Sailen Choudhury) is a rich engineer in the town. He is displeased with Prasanta and cannot accept his son-in-law as a painter. Another guy , Bipul (Indu Mukherjee), returning from England is Prasanta's rival because he wants to marry Chitra. Therefore he is displeased with Prasanta. One day Bipul's mother tells her son that Prasanta is intimate with a model in his studio. Chitra's father comes to Prasanta's studio and shouts. Mr. Mullick accompanied by Chitra and Bipul notices a half naked model inside the studio. Chitra is very much upset about this model. Chitra wants to end her relationship with Prasanta. Prasanta destroy's everything in the studio in his madness. Next morning Prasanta's letter is found in a car abandoned by the riverside. He has freed Chitra from her relations with him. Chitra is full of tears. There is a inn near a hill, Pahari (Pankaj Mullick) & Jharna (Menoka Debi) both are in charge of the inn. Prasanta sees a newspaper account of Chitra and Bipul's marriage ceremony. Prasanta sits there speechless. Prasanta here a meet a coolie Sardar in the inn. He is a very rough man. Somehow a photograph of Chitra slips from the pocket of Prasanta, which comes to the notice of Sardar. Meanwhile a band of hunters come from Kolkata and pitch their tents in the nearest jungle. Mr. Mullick Chitra and Bipul are also with the hunters. They meet Prasanta there. Prasanta asks them Chitra's whereabout. Chitra is in camp where Sardar recognises Chitra through her photograph. Sardar kidnapps Chitra. A trouble begins from here between Bipul and Prasanta. Mr. Mullick tries to find out Chitra. Everyone doubts Prasanta. Bipul suddently draws out a revolver from his pocket and asks them regarding Chitra. In course of searching Chita Prasanta saw she is in tent with her hand and legs tied. Sardar is in a drinking spree with his companies. Prasanta comes there and starts shooting indiscriminately killing them one after another. There is a large scuffle among them. In this confusion Sardar suddenly thrusts a dagger into Prasanta's abdomen. Simontaneously Prasanta shoots Sardar with tears in her eyes Chitra lifts Prasanta's head in her lap and says why he did all this. To give you freedom , says Prasanta and expires shortly.
